Most Common KitchenAid Dishwasher Error Codes:

  • 1-1 or F1E1

    Relay Stuck on Control Board: Turn off the power to the dishwasher for at least 5 minutes. If the code still appears, it is likely bad wiring or the control board needs to be replaced.

  • 1-2 or F1E2

    Damaged or Corrupted Memory on Control Board: Check the wiring between the keypad and the main control board for any loose and damaged wires. If no damage is found, replace the main control board.

  • 2-1 or F2E1

    Stuck Button on the User Interface Control

  • 2-2 or F2E2

    User Control Interface Not Communicating with Control Board: Check the wiring between the user interface and the main control board for any loose and damaged wires. If no damage is found, replace the main control board or user interface.

  • 3-3 or F3E3

    Thermistor/OWI Sensor Failure: Turn off the power and check the wiring between the thermistor and the main control board. Replace any damaged wiring, if no damage is found - replace the thermistor or main control board.

  • 4-4 or F4E4

    Error Between Electronic Control Board and Circulation Pump Motor: Disconnect from power and check the wiring between the circulation pump and the main control board. If no issues with the wiring are found, replace the motor assembly or the circulation pump.

  • 5-1 or F5E1

    Door Switch Failure: this code appears if the door is not shut 4 seconds after pressing the start key. If the door is shut, there may be a problem with the door switch, and must be replaced.

  • 5-2 or F5E2

    Door Not Opening Detected: The dishwasher expects the door to be opened before a new cycle begins. This code will appear if a second cycle is ran without opening the door. If this is not the case, the door switch may need to be replaced.

  • 6-1 or F6E1

    Dishwasher Won't Fill: Check for any items that may be stuck between the overfill float and the dishwasher and remove them. If the overfill float is stuck up, it will not fill.

  • 6-2 or F6E2

    Failure with Water Inlet Valve: Unplug the dishwasher from power and remove the toe panel and bottom front panel. Check the wiring harness for the water inlet valve. Repair any broken or loose wires or replace the harness.

  • 6-3 or F6E3

    Suds or Air Detected in Water Pump: This error code will appear when too much detergent has been used and there are too many suds in the dishwasher. For 3 minutes, the drain pump will run to remove the excess suds. If there are still suds, they will have to be removed by hand.

  • 6-4 or F6E4

    Float Switch is Open: Check the overflow switch and ensure nothing is blocking it or that it is not stuck. When the dishwasher is shut off, check to make sure that the water inlet valve is properly closing.

  • 6-6 or F6E6

    Incoming Water is Too Cold: This code will appear if the temperature is below 110 F. The normal temperature is between 110 and 120 F. You may need to replace the thermistor/OWI or the control board.

  • 7-1 or F7E1

    Heating Element Not Working: Unplug from power and look at the heating element for any damage. Replace if necessary. If no damage, check the wiring and replace the harness if needed.

  • 7-2 or F7E2

    Heating Element Not Shutting Off: Unplug from power for 5 minutes and see if the code clears itself. If not, the control board must be replaced.

  • 8-1 or F8E1

    Draining Slow: Unplug from power and turn off the water valve. Check drain hoses for blockages and remove them. If the hose is clear, check the drain pump' wiring for any loose or damaged wires. Replaced the drain pump.

  • 8-2 or F8E2

    Drain Pump Error: Unplug from power and shut off the water. Check the drain pump for any damage and replace if necessary. 

  • 9-1 or F9E1

    Electronic Control Board Cannot Detect Diverter Disc Position: Unplug from power and check the diverter disc's wiring. Replace or repair any loose or damaged wires. If no issues are found with the wiring, replace the wiring harness, control board, or diverter disc.

  • 9-2 or F9E2

    Diverter Motor Stuck On: This code indicates that the diverter relay is defective and needs to be replaced on the control board.

  • 9-3 or F9E3

    Diverter Disc Missing: Check the diverter disk for damage and replace.

  • 9-4 or F9E4

    Lower Spray Arm Error: Check for any obstructions blocking the lower spray arm from moving. If no blockages, check the wiring between the spray arm and the control board.

  • 10-1 or FAE1

    Detergent Dispenser Error: Unplug from power and check the wiring between the control board and the detergent dispenser. Replace the dispenser if no issues are found.

  • 10-2 or FAE2

    Vent Wax Moto Electrical Error: Unplug from power and check the wiring between the motor circuit and control board. Replace the vent wax motor if no issues are found.

  • 10-3 or FAE3

    Drying Fan Error: Disconnect from power and check the wiring between the drying fan and the control panel. Replace the drying fan if no issues are found.
